Big and Bold Birthday with Gemma

I love creating typographic cards. I think they work especially well for those tricky masculine cards. I began by choosing my colour palette. Colours can be tricky too but I used the following categories to help me choose: Bold – orange and yellow Complimentary – blue Neutral – dark grey Dark – navy blue Light – light grey Once I’d chosen my colours, I die cut the letters for ‘birthday’, plus an exclamation mark, from each of the 6 colours using the Charlie Large Outline Alphas. I also die cut the same letters twice from white card, which I’ll...

70 Birthday Balloons with Gemma

I have a special birthday card to share today. I used a combination of dies to create these large balloons, perfect for a milestone birthday. I began with the background. I die cut the Ocean Overlay die from white sparkle card and silver embossed card. I adhered the pieces on to a 5.25″ card base. This die is great for adding texture to a background. Next, I used two dies from the Nesting Circles die set to cut patterned paper. I layered these over white card circles, for dimension and stability. To turn these into balloons, I used the...

Pantone Colour of the Year 2023 with Gemma

Today I’m continuing my tradition of sharing a card that’s inspired by the Pantone Colour of the Year. This year it’s Viva Magenta. Described by Pantone as ‘brave and fearless…an animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self expression without restraint.’ I was also inspired by a card I made last year, using the Balloon Buddies stamp set. I loved this design so I decided to use this layout again. As I don’t have the exact shade for the Pantone colour of the year, I chose a selection of pink and red inks to stamp the flowers...

Snow Globe with Gemma

I have one more Hello Bluebird Christmas card to share for you in 2022. I used a variety of different die sets, and chose a limited colour palette of white, gold and black. I began by die cutting the Snow Globe Builder die a few times from white card and once from gold sparkle card stock. I layered these together to get some dimension. I cut the centre background area from black sparkle card. I then used the Starry Sky die to add snow and star detail. I also cut the centre area from white glitter card, then created...

Snowman Competition with Gemma

My card today features the fun Snowman Competition stamp set. This is a great set, packed full of images to create different scenes. If you find big background scenes intimidating, it can help to create smaller areas for mini scenes instead. I used three dies from the Nesting Circle die set to cut windows in a 6×6 square panel of card. I freehand cut some white glitter card to sit behind the circles, for snowy ground. I layered a piece of patterned paper on a 6×6 square card base, then adhered the die cut panel on top. For the...
