Hello! Amy here and I’m back on the Hello Bluebird blog with some cute Bonfire Buddies who are lighting up the night with good times and sweet treats. Everyone knows that the best part of camping is sitting around a blazing fire in the dark of night, telling stories and toasting marshmallows for s’mores and these woodland critters are doing it up right!

I started by laying out the scene on a scratch piece of card stock using the actual stamps, this gives me the visual I need to figure out what images to stamp first as I build my one layer scenes. As I’ve mentioned before, I always begin stamping with the objects or characters that are the most forward in a scene. Because I really wanted the fire to be completely encircled by the campers and goodies, the fox with his back turned was perfect down front. One slight hiccup was that the fox didn’t have a marshmallow stick like all his buddies, but that was easily fixed when I masked him off and stamped just the stick from the bunnies hands right over the mask. Once the mask was removed it looked like he had been holding that stick all along.

Playing with light when I color is always a fun challenge and this campfire scene was no exception. The way the light from the fire radiates out from the center of the card means you always have to pay more attention to the changing directions of the shadows it casts, because more than anything else, it is the dark contrasting shadows that make the scene look like it is glowing. Because the Bonfire Buddies set doesn’t come with any sentiments, I had to get creative. So I cut the word “s’more” out using the Jane Small Alpha dies and colored it to look like toasted marshmallows. I then glued the letters to one of the larger word bubbles included in the new Word Bubbles die set… which is so very handy, I love ’em! Finally, I completed the sentiment by inking up just a single line from one of the sentiments included in the Unicorn Tales set. Now I had a tailor made sentiment to complete this happy card.

Stay crafty my friends!
